The Village of Castalia Council has voted to improve the safety and accessibility to businesses along main street. At recent meetings the township fire chief raised safety concerns to pedestrians and motorists accessing the Main Street businesses the Village Council recently completed the competitive bid process and has entered into agreement with HULA Construction to complete this project.

The work will consist of demolition of the lower step and replace it with multiple steps of standard height and depth. After proper curing, railings will be added in several areas to aid in using the steps. This project will reduce the total number of parking spots, shifting from angle to parallel parking, and safer easier access to the downtown businesses, as well as lessening the opportunity for traffic accidents. Work will begin in about 10 days and proceed in sections so as not to impact the entire downtown at the same time. The Village Council regrets any temporary inconvenience during construction but believes this action is necessary to enhance the safety of all.
